Building this site
Why I chose Astro, markdown and a static host for a portfolio that mixes code, photographs and travel writing.

Every piece of writing on this site is a markdown file in a git repository. Pushing to
main triggers a build on Cloudflare, and a minute or two later the new
version is live as plain HTML, CSS and optimised images.
Why static?
There’s no database to patch, no server to keep alive, and the whole site can be served from a CDN. For a portfolio that changes a few times a month, that’s the right trade.
Adding a post
Create a folder in src/content/blog/, drop an index.md inside it, and put any images
next to it. That’s it.
